Online poker glossary

A wager in which players bet all of the chips in their stake at once.

The minimum bet placed into the pot before any cards are dealt.

Also called the “forced bet,” the bring-in is a bet that must be placed by the player with the lowest face-up card in 5-Card Stud and 7-Card Stud.

The number of chips required to join a Real Play table. The amount of the buy-in is set by certain rules that are different in Limit Poker, No-Limit Poker and Pot Limit Poker.

The flop is comprised of the first three community cards dealt face up in Texas Hold’em, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo poker. The flop is followed by the turn and the river. The flop is dealt before the second betting round.

A game situation in which only two players are still active at a poker table, or a game played by only two players.

When two hands have identical combinations, the high card is the highest card in either hand that is not in a combination.

A tournament played on several tables and which generally starts on a day and at a time that have been set in advance. See variables of multi-table tournaments.

A virtual space where players can buy or re-buy chips.

Sometimes called the “anteroom,” the poker lobby is the window that displays the table of games and tournaments that are underway. See the chart that explains abbreviations used in the poker lobby. Amount comprising all bets placed during all the betting rounds of a given hand, excluding the rake, which is taken by the winner or winners.

Total amount in play during a tournament. The way purses are shared at multi-table tournaments or sit and go tournaments varies. Details are avaIlable in the poker lobby.

The rake in a Real Play game is collected from player bets, up to a fixed maximum amount. The tournament rake represents a portion of the registration fees paid by tournament registrants.

In a tournament, the term « rebuy » means the possibility of coming back in the tournament after being eliminated, by rebuying the same amount of chips received at the start of the tournament, the rebuy option will be specified in the tournament description.

The fifth community card dealt face up before the fourth and last betting round in Texas Hold’em, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo. Preceded by the flop and the turn.

A satellite is a qualifying tournament for a bigger tournament. A satellite tournament can be multi-table or sit and go.

After the last betting round, players show their cards to determine who holds the winning hand.
